FROM LUKOV WITH LOVE BY MARIANA ZAPATA

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.25/5

**SPOILER ALERT**

One moment of appreciation for this amazing sport/art (and Yuzuru Hanyu).

So, this was surprisingly an amazing book, it was really sweet, romantic and emotional, it was INTENSE. I really loved, although, I have to confess that when I read this book was about figure skating, the book had already won half of my rating 😂😏.

Although I loved this book, there a few details I didn’t like, like how little it's explained of the sport, like someone who doesn't know what figure skating consist of would wonder what a triple lutz is, or an axel... Mariana Zapata didn’t explain what was each exercise and that could be confusing.

There was a bit of paraphrasing too, that was a bit weird and confusing too, some weird sentences too (I hope it was an publishing mistake...) that were hard to understand.

Leaving behind the parts I didn’t like too much, let's dive right into the good things!!

The PLOT it's centered in Jasmine, the heroine, Ivan Lukov, her skating partner for a year, her family and the upcoming World Championship of Figure Skating, Jas and Ivan have to prepare for in only a few months.

The family drama and scenes were intense, excellent written and transmitted the right kind of emotional roller coaster. The relationships in this book were all complex, beautiful and hard to understand from an outsider point of view, but just as Jasmine said, they were her family and she just loved all too much and equally, she didn’t want any of them to felt left out or less loved than the rest.

The difficulties of being a professional/elite sportsman/woman were REALLY WELL portrayed, was really authentic and realistic. How many sacrifices one must make to have that life, the king of endurance one must have to life that kind of life and let's not even begin with the body... 😖😢

There were minor plot twists and angst but nothing too troubling. Everything is uncovered in the end.

The ROMANCE , I must have to bow down to the QUEEN of SLOW BURNS Mariana Zapata, I'm not even that much of a fan of slow burn but she just does them so well!!

This was soo romantic, there's no words, (where can I get an Ivan?), even with all that sexual tension, that animosity in the beginning, the chemistry between them was just that authentic and believable, the romance was so well developed, that even though it was slooow in the end everything happened when it had to.

The only maybe, negative feedback, it's that Ivan was too much of the giver in the relationship while Jas only took and didn't give much back, she was a bit stingy with love 😂🙆🏻‍♀️

The troupes in this book are really popular and good! 😏

♡ Enemies To Lovers

♡ Best Friend's Brother

♡ Possesive Hero

♡ Sports Romance

♡ Forced Proximity

There wasn't any O/M or O/W drama, there was some stalking problems rewarding Jasmine but well she obviously didn't like to have a freaking stalker.

CHARACTERS , the characters were all GREAT!! Actually, I didn’t disliked anyone (shocked, right?! Me too) They were all WELL DEVELOPED, with interesting backgrounds, their personalities and characteristics were attractive and intense (more so, both mc's). And although I liked BOTH, Jasmine and Ivan, the one that stole my heart obviously was Ivan, I guess that's why he's a book character because it's impossible for someone like him to exist 😂.

🏆JASMINE, she was quite a ride, to be honest, I liked her, she was strong (too much, sometimes, I wish someone had told her it's good to cry sometimes), she was funny, she was sassy, she stood up for her lived ones, she stood against bullies!! (can I marry this girl?!), she never gives up on her dreams no matter how hard it got, she has a bad temper and didn’t even hide it (ICON 🛐), she always puts on their place people who deserve it, no matter who, she has a learning disability and doesn't like studying and doesn't want to continue her studies (she's just gets better 🛐).

Body shaming it's her trigger, she transforms into a monster, whenever, there's someone body shaming others or her, she can't stand that, she was a bit chubby until she reached sixteen and suffered a lot of body shaming bullying. (Really she deserves an altar by now, I really think she one of the best heroines 🛐🙆🏻‍♀️)

She has a closed off personality, she doesn't like to talk about her feelings, her difficulties, ask for help. She has a really bad temper and says what she think without filter (this was so hilarious ⚠️😂), sometimes, she was a bit frustrating how much she would suffer alone when everyone just loved her so much and she just didn't see it.

She always felt a bit left alone in her family and the less loved one, that's why probably she has always tried to love his family a lot and the same. Although she didn't have that much time with her figure skating, she did try her best.

EXAMPLES:

“Were they picking on you?”

It took a swallow before I got a nod. From both of them. And that feeling in my spine only got stronger.

“If I ever, ever hear or see you picking on them—or anybody here—again, I’m going to make you both regret the day you decided to take lessons here, do you understand me?”

“You get picked on again, come tell me, okay? I’ll deal with it for you. Tomorrow, next month or a year from now, don’t be shy, as long as I’m here, I’ll take care of it for you. Nobody deserves to be spoken to like that.”

“And you two, I catch you doing that again and I will open a can of whoop-ass on both your rude—”

--

My idol!!🛐🙆🏻‍♀️ I wish, there were more people like her!

🏆IVAN LUKOV, this one was probably the most confusing and mysterious one almost till 60% of the book and then some more, he wasn’t what i expected at all, at the beginning we get a condescending rich brat... who in the end resulted in the best character of the book, he was sweet, he was supportive, he was protective, the most mature of everyone in this book, he was the major supporter of Jasmine throughout all her struggles, how much he helped her and the beautiful words he said to her and how he always took care of her (😍😭).

EXAMPLES:

Ivan had made me fucking hot chocolate. Without marshmallows according to him, but he wouldn’t have known that I only treated myself to hot cocoa with marshmallows on very rare occasions.

How he knew—why he even had the mix—I couldn’t handle.

“Let me give you a hug.” His voice sounded even closer, his body warmer.

And he hugged me. He hugged me so tight to him I couldn’t breathe, and I hated myself.

“Mr. Santos, your daughter is the hardest working person I’ve ever met. She’s persistent to a fault. Someone will tell her not to do something, and she only does it more. I don’t think there’s anyone in the world who has fallen more than her and gotten right back up, never complaining, never crying, never quitting. She’ll cuss herself out, but it’s at herself. She’s smart, and she’s relentless,” he said calmly, his hand squeezing my leg tighter than before.

“She gets to the facility at four in the morning Monday through Friday and trains with me until eight. Then she goes to work, on her feet right after that until noon. She eats her two breakfasts and her lunch in her car, then comes inside and trains with me until four. Three days a week, she has three ballet lessons by herself and one with me for two hours each time. One day a week, she takes Pilates from six until seven. Four days out of the week, she goes for runs and works out after we train. She goes home, eats, spends some time with the rest of her family, and goes to bed by nine. Then she’s up at three o’clock in the morning and does it all over again.

“And for months, she was going back to the facility to practice by herself from ten at night until midnight. Because she was too proud to tell me that she needed help. Then she would go home, sleep for three hours and do it all over again. Six days a week.” The hand on my leg gripped the fuck out of it, not hard but… desperate. And Ivan kept talking. “If Jasmine wanted to go to school, she would graduate with honors. If she wanted to become a doctor, she would be a doctor. But she wanted to become a figure skater, and she is the best I have ever had as a partner. I think that if you’re going to do something, you should be the best at it. And that’s what Jasmine is. I understand school is important, but she has a gift. You should be proud of her for never giving up on her dreams. You should be proud of her for being true to herself.”

Ivan paused and then said three words that slayed me. “I would be.”

--

That's how you defend the love of your life, watch and learn, bitches 😂🙆🏻‍♀️

“Why do you do this to yourself? Huh?” he asked me.

“You know how good you are. You know how rare that is. You know how much work you put in to everything. You know how strong you are,” he whispered, his arms crossed over my shoulder blades. “Your dad doesn’t know anything about figure skating, Jasmine. From the sound of it, he doesn’t know you at all. You know better than to let what he thinks get to you. You know better.”

“You’re enough. You will always be enough. Hear me?”

“I believe in you. In us. Regardless of what happens, you will always be the best partner I’ve ever had. You’ll always be the hardest working person I’ve ever known. There will only ever be you.”

“I’d give you every ribbon, trophy, medal, anything at my house or at the LC if it meant something,” he told me. “I’ll give you anything you want if you stop crying.”

--

And that, ladies and gentlemen was Ivan Lukov! 😍👏🏼👏🏼

As this was an enemies to lovers, the quirky banter between them, their childish fights, their evil insults... they were like ten years old, when is popular insulting the person you like, they fitted perfectly in that elementary school grade.

If there was one thing I really disliked from Ivan, was the body shaming, that, I really CAN'T stand, not even as a joke and even though he said he wasn't serious and that he thought she had the body of a goddess, the knife was already stabbed...

His pep talks to Jasmine were the BEST of this book, they were just that SPECTACULAR and SPECIAL, just like him, sometimes it's important that someone reminds you just how wonderful and amazing you are, how much you are loved and how much you will keep achieving. His sentimental side gave him such a depth that other characters lacked that he actually was the star in this book, how important it's to be partners in the sport, but also it's important to have trust and emotional connection, support in each other to create something really beautiful out there.

EXAMPLES:

“You’re the best figure skater I’ve ever seen,” this man whispered directly into my ear, his hold the strongest thing I had ever felt in my life. “You are. The most athletic. The strongest. The toughest. The hardest working—”

“These young girls quit right after they win gold medals because they’re scared of losing after that. You say nobody remembers second place, but no one remembers the girls that win once and disappear afterward either. The girl I know, the Jasmine I know, isn’t scared of shit. She doesn’t give up, and that’s the girl people will always remember. The one who is there time after time. You’d win and keep trying to win afterward. That’s the girl I know. The one I partnered up with. The one I think is the best—and you better not ever ask me to repeat that because I won’t. I don’t know what happened to you earlier, but whatever it was, you need to move past it. You need to remember what you’re capable of. What you are. You make every sacrifice worth it. You make every penny worth it. Do you understand me?”

He was really great to everyone in Jasmine's family and he liked to include himself in their family dinners, meetings... Just like Ivan's family liked to have Jasmine over, so did Jas family with Ivan (when families knows before you 🤡)

The SIDE CHARACTERS were funny, enjoyable and actually completed the story, they were some of other Zapata's book mc's like Aaron and Ruby, the mother and her husband had an interesting relationship too (age gap, Zapata's signature), Jonathan, Jasmine older brother and Jamie his husband, were the ones I liked the best, their dynamics and their teasing, lightened the atmosphere always, trying to make Jasmine feel better and familiar. Sebastian and Talia the two other Jasmine siblings, these two doesn't appear much, only twice and then in the family texting group chats.

This family was something... intense and their dynamics were really interesting, they really had some miscommunication problems (mostly by misconceptions and misinterpretations) but they all were close and protect each other very much. They all supported Jasmine very much and were all very proud of her.

The only family member outside the "family’s core" was the father who lived with his new family and didn't support Jasmine very much. They are some troubles regarding this issue throughout the book.

In CONCLUSION, I liked this book very much, it was very well constructed and developed, the sport is one of my favourites (so that's a plus 😏), all the characters were plainly and straight up great. The romance was BEAUTIFUL, there was an actual emotional connection between them and you could actually believe it, if only we had a bit more of them... and an epilogue from Ivan's pov (yeah, I know, that Mariana Zapata doesn't write dual pov but a girl can dream 😭).

HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book, I hope you will loved as much as I did, and have a blast reading it!!

Happy reading everyone!! ❤❤🖤🖤

P.S.I. I'll be posting quotes sometime soon... I have been feeling sick this last few weeks (migraines and dizziness), so I'll not be that active until I feel better.

P.S.II. Imagine me this weekend reading Mariana Zapata & Taylor Swift, so yeah, romanticism overdose, a little too much 😂😂🙆🏻‍♀️

SAVAGE RIVALS BY BECCA STEELE REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐  4.5/5

ARC Provided By The Author In Exchange For An Honest Review

**S. A.**

So finally, the completed standalone was released!! I enjoyed this book a lot, there were a few issues but I liked it and really, went through it in a few hours, just that invested I was.

This book is an MM romance, featuring the love-hate relationship between two MALE teenagers.

This book even though I liked it quite a lot, I still found a few issues within that made me not completely felt in love with it.

I felt like this book was a bit too rushed at the beginning and at the end too, like they got together maybe a little too soon, I wanted more bantering and fighting between them, more pranks too. And then the ending was a bit abrupt too, maybe, I don't know exactly, I was just there, left wanting more. (😭🤔)

There were a bit too much sex scenes... I wished for more emotional connection or more plot/plot twists but well, I'm glad at least we got that plot twist towards the end. (Although, I'm now confessing that usually MM's have a lot of sexual content even more than MF)

Let's just get to the interesting points of this review, before I bore everyone out of their minds with my useless ranting (😎🤯).

The PLOT was a bit rushed a bit at the beginning and at the end, but the story was interesting, sexy and steamy. The plot is centered between the rivalry between two soccer teams of two different schools, and their captains, who specially hate each others guts.

How they would vandalise/prank each other’s schools to piss each other off, they would use foul play during soccer games, they would fight each other in The Pit (like an "arena" were they fight one on one until one taps out or is knocked out)... the kind of things teenagers do between them just because they are rivals and want to show who is better/stronger than the other. (😏🙆🏻‍♀️)

The ROMANCE is actually great, the chemistry between Asher and Levi is on tune, they are very hot and cute together. Sometimes, I would feel frustrated wishing for a more emotional connection (but we know how this is... 😪😓) than a sexual one. Their romance is sexy, hot and steamy, they go from enemies to lovers in a blink of an eye, actually, one moment they are beating each other up and the next, out of nowhere, they start kissing (abusing 🙊) each other's lips. But towards the end, you can get a glimpse of an emotional connection growing between them, which was beautiful, and it was quite frustrating that the book ended when it was just getting even better. (😭)

There are some good and popular troupes in this book:

♡ Enemies To Lovers

♡ Possesive Hero

♡ Secret Relationship

♡ Rich/Poor

♡ Virgin Gay Sex

♡ Bi-awkening

The CHARACTERS , so in this department I didn't have any problem (shocker! 👏🏼) I liked both mc's the same (lie, I liked Levi a teeny bit more 🤫) and the supporting characters were good too, the friends of both mc's, were loyal, trustful and funny, easy to like, honestly.

💀 LEVI "seven/7", he's the captain of Highnam Academy "soccer" (football) team , the school for rich kids, he hates Asher but also feels an undeniable attraction towards him, that makes him hate him even more, his pranks against Alstone High gets out of hand and backlash him in end. He's very competitive, strong headed, short tempered but he really is emotional and caring towards his important people, he's protective, smart and likes to win in everything he competes or involves himself in, even in sex (this was quite a view 😂🙈). His competitive streak only gets worse whenever Asher is involved or around, he has to stay above him.

EXAMPLES:

“Nah, I really didn’t . Nice place you’ve got here, Seven— not that I can see much of it in the dark. You might wanna sort out your little power problem. We could use some light in here.”

“I hate you so fucking much.” My back was against the wall, and he was right up in my face. Again.

All I could focus on was Asher’s lips, soft but completely unyielding against mine.

Asher’s face was flushed, his pupils blown, and his mouth wide open as he stood there, at a total loss for words. Blood streaked across his lips, the evidence of our brutality.

--

That must be a new kissing technique, we are just to amateurs to knew that... 😏🙆🏻‍♀️

A choked cry tore from my lips, and I fell to my knees next to Asher’s prone body, cradling his head in my hands.

“Asher. Oh, fuck. Asher.” Brushing his wet hair away from his face , I curled over him, my voice dropping to a panicked whisper. “Baby, wake up.” I didn’t even realise I was crying until I felt the tears on my cheeks, hot against the freezing winter air.

--

This scene, one of the best, waiting almost 2 months for this (🙌 🙆🏻‍♀️)

💀 ASHER "ten/10", Alstone High soccer (football ) team captain, the school for the poor kids, the wrong side of the town kids. Asher is quite the popular guy in his school, everyone likes him and respects him, they always expect him to seek revenge against Highnam whenever something happens and he usually delivers. Like Levi, he's very competitive, strong headed (even more than Levi, I would dare say), short tempered (a lot), smart and protective of his friends. He has an strained relationship with his mother, due to different circumstances life has put them through. He's need to compete with Levi and win is always there and NEVER, goes aways, they always need to compete for every single thing, even for who is top during sex, who kisses who... (everything 😂🏆).

EXAMPLES:

“Milo.” Easily moving out of his hold, I gripped him so he was immobile and pressed my knife to his throat, the flat of the blade against his skin. “Meet Ruby.”

--

Why did I liked so much whenever he took out Ruby??

Levison Woodford, known as Levi to almost everyone. I called him Seven, after his football number.

“You’re nothing but Highnam scum. A bully with not even two brain cells to rub together, on a loser team . Your little world is so sad that you have to try and provoke me just to make your pathetic life feel a bit better.” The contempt in his eyes froze me in place. “Tell me, Ten. Does it make you feel good to come here and—”

“You’re going to pay for that,” I snarled. “It’s time I introduced you to Ruby. Properly.”

“Do it.” Then his mouth came down on mine.

The supporting characters, Danny & Talia [Asher's best friends and most supportive friends] and Milo [Levi's best friend and best supporter] are all great, the friends are funny, supportive, annoying teenagers but likeable (as likeable as teenagers can be 😂) in all their different forms. They help each other and maintain healthy relationships between them (shocker here, again! 🥳👏🏼). Asher's mother it's the only difficult character, for her reluctance to accept her son's sexuality.

In conclusion , the book was very good and funny, the crazy banter and pranks between the schools were great and amazing (probably one of my favourite parts 🙆🏻‍♀️), the romance between Asher and Levi was very teenager (-ish 🤣), sexy, hot and cute in the end. But Levi was the one who stole my heart from this book and mainly the reason I rounded up the rating too (🤫😍🤡).

I highly recommend this book, I hope you like it and enjoy it as much as me!

Happy reading everyone!! 🖤🖤

P.S. This book was introduced (22 chapters exactly) in the anthology Brutal Boys.

BOOK BLURB

Asher Henderson.

Captain of the Highnam Academy football team, and the bane of my existence.

As Alstone High’s team captain, I’ve been pitted against him from the beginning, but our conflict isn’t only reserved for the pitch.

Everyone knows we’re enemies. From our first encounter, our rivalry has been escalating, spiralling out of control.

Until one night when everything between us changed.

He pushed me too far, and we crossed a line that should never have been crossed.

Now, I can’t get him out of my head.

Can we ever be more than rivals, or are there too many obstacles in our way?

One thing I know for sure.

Things between us will never be the same again.

KINGDOM OF THE CURSED BY KERRI MANISCALCO REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐ 2.5~3/5

(I don't even know what to rate this book... I may come back later and downgrade the rate, because seriously this book was messed up.)

READ THE P.S.

**THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS**

This book, the second book in this series, was A LOT like the first one, a lot of boring, going in circles, hate-love and even less witchcraft than I the first.

So again with the disappointment with this book too, maybe my expectation were too high with all the ruckus about this book...

I don't like this book but I don't dislike it either, because there were good things in it that just prevents me from disliking it, however there are many things I hated and annoyed me to say I liked it (I that makes any sense).

I'll begin to describe my experience with this book, listing the few things I liked and the many things I disliked it.

Although there aren't many, there's still a few things I enjoyed reading in this book, that keep me from DNF and keep going till the end.

◇ WRATH , it's probably the main reason I keep going, I wanted his "mystery" or truth to be finally revealed, I waited since last book for it. I think they way it's revealed it's a bit poor, I expected a grandeur revelation moment... He's character is still the most interesting one, the most mysterious and of course the smartest one too (everyone likes the smart ones!) Although his scenes are the ones I enjoyed the most, I think they were quite few and it would be even better some POV from him too. What he's thinking when Emilia is doing her usual dumb shit, or throwing tantrums he knows she's not gonna follow through... all these things I wished I could see his inner thoughts

◇ Mysteries and new characters , there are some new mysteries and characters thrown in this book which looked quite interesting, the solving of these will follow up in the next book I guess, but I'm quite grateful for the new refreshing mystery and characters, made the book lighter and interesting, without centering all the book in the same themes that started being boring.

DEMON PRINCES this one is like a double sharpened sword, because will I enjoyed the Dark Princes and their interactions, I also felt quite dissatisfied with them, I expected more brutality, more darkness, more debauchery, more devilness... they were in hell for godness sake. They are supposed to be demonic.

This is all I have to say for the things I liked and enjoyed, not much but a few.

Now, they are quite a few things I disliked and I was disappointed with, the first of all, I think everyone can guess.

□ EMILIA she was as annoying as I the first book, she didn’t hold up to her words, one day she want one thing and the next the opposite, she really doesn't know how to search for answers when the answers have been in front of her the whole time, she hot and cold attitude with Wrath really got on my nerves. Her character development is a bit of a mess, I understand people can change (very little, once in a million years...) but how can someone change to the point where you can't even recognise that person anymore? I mean in this book, she looked more like a bloodthirsty vampire (without fangs) than Emilia. So I really didn't enjoy her character again in this book. And how difficult is to read a book when you don't like one of the MC's of a book and the book os told from that character's pov.

□ DARK PRINCES like I explained before I expected more from these characters and was dissatisfied with the results. They were too soft and too goodie two shoes for demons, this is obviously my perspective.

□ Too long , the book was too long and extended for what it had to say, it would have been better with a few less pages, there were a lot of boring parts were nothing happened and could have done without those.

I'm not gonna dwell too much in this book, there's not much to say to be honest, it could have been better, there were a few things that could have done without and the main characters need more proper development.

The book ENDS on a cliffhanger, the mystery is yet to be completely solved too.

Now I'm gonna leave here a few quotes, so you can form your own opinion of what I have just stated above.

He was not my friend, and he certainly wasn’t my protector. He was exactly what his brother Envy had claimed: the worst of the seven demon princes.

A monster among beasts.

I could never allow myself to forget what he was. One of the Wicked. The immortal beings who stole souls for the devil, THEORY

--

(Yay, the ranting begins... girl you never go through your promises!! )

Wrath, the mighty demon of war and betrayer of my soul, shifted.

“Therefore, I chose the devil, not you. How does that feel? Knowing I’d prefer to bed a monster for eternity rather than subject myself to you again, Prince Wrath.”   THEORY 1

And all he had to do was betray me to secure his heart’s greatest desire.

If I cannot walk through snow without assistance, I might as well slit my throat now and be done with it. I do not need you or anyone else to hold my hand. In fact, I would like you to leave me alone. I’ll make better time without you.”

Wrath lay behind me, one heavy arm draped possessively over my waist as if daring any intruder to steal what he’d claimed as his. I should scoot away. And not just for propriety’s sake. Being this close to him was like playing with fire and I’d already felt his burn, but I didn’t want to move. I liked his arm on my body, the weight and feel and scent of him curled around me like a python. I wanted him to claim me, almost as much as I wanted him to be mine. REALITY

We both stilled at the sultry tone of my voice, the longing I couldn’t hide.

--

(Or hot or cold, but pick one and stick to it, you are driving me nuts...)

Have I ever told you your anger is like my own personal aphrodisiac?”

--

While your current illusion sounds wildly interesting,” Wrath’s silky voice came from across the small enclosure, “you might want to put your clothes on. The temperature is well below freezing now.”

“Once you finish thinking about my impressive appendage, I suggest moving faster. We’ve got a long way to travel. And you look half-dead as it stands.”

If the heavenly being staring down at me had ever been an angel, he was something other now. Something to be feared and avoided. Something that made hearts pound and knees quake.

He was as forbidden as the fruit offered to Eve, but somehow even more tempting

Betrayal went down easier if it was served with fine demon liquor, personal suites in luxurious palaces, and expensive gifts. At least according to him.

...my mind still churned with anger over his betrayal...

I leaned precariously over Wrath, my face close to his. I wanted to kiss him. Possibly break a bottle and stab him first. But then definitely kiss him.

--

(I didn’t know we were on a Katy Perry's MV = Hot N Cold)

[ All the while, my twin was alive. Well. Better than well if her new, powerful magic was any indication. My twin had been enchanting skulls. Leaving them like morbid clues. When all she had to do was sneak into my room. Instead she toyed with me. Tried breaking me. And she’d almost turned me into a monster.]

--

(Took your damn time, girl!! Of course she is... *exasperated*)

[ “If I am still yours.”]

...

[ “If I am, I would tell you that you are mine. That I am choosing you as my husband. There is no one I’d rather confront my demons with, no soul I’d travel through Hell with. And no one else I want standing beside me when I go to the Shifting Isles tomorrow.”]  REALITY

[ “And if I don’t require time to think it over?"]

After all this ranting and quotes and foot notes in quotes, this (review) has finally ended!!

I don't know if I would recommend this or not... I guess you should give a try and judge for yourselves! Happy reading everyone 💗❤

P.S. Ignore all the foot notes, I'm just to lazy to delete them after I copied the quotes, they may be too sarcastic for some, proceed with caution ⚠️

KING OF CORIUM BY C. HALLMAN & J.L. BECK REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.25/5

** SPOILER ALERT**

I have to confess I really liked this book, most of all our heroine.

This book is a Dark Enemies To Lovers Bully Romance, so there are a few (a lot) of darkness themes in this book. So before I start this review I would like to caution sensitive people of the following, proceed with caution (at your own discretion):

Beware of Triggers Warnings there are a few.

Attempted sexual assaults [the Hero's friends try to force the heroine, Aspen, into giving a blowjob = could escalate to gang rape + Matteo tries to rape Aspen in the ball night after him been suggested by Quinton's father + drunken Quinton (the Hero) tries to rape Aspen after getting in a fight with his friend]

Dub-con (multiple times) [almost (if not all) the sexual encounters between the H and h were dubious consent, meaning, she didn’t want to have sex with him but she exchanged an hour a week to him for her safety, still at the beginning it's very clear how much she doesn't want this "sexual" deal]

○ Violence

Dark bullying

Sexual assault/ Harassment [the H forces Aspen into giving him a blowjob in front of his friends while they all held her against her will + the H jerks off into the h abdomen without her consent + Adela suffered sexual harassment/ assault by Matteo on a party]

Now after all that, the book is interesting, the PLOT revolves around Quinton and Aspen, who just enrolled into a Criminals offsprings university, Corium University. It's a fast paced plot where the interactions between both mc's occurred pretty quickly and also rapidly evolves into a sexual relationship.

There's a bit of an emotional, psychological edge to the plot in how both of the mc' deals with their different family problems and death. Although, its a criminal university, there's not much action, no mafia/ cartels, no drugs or assesins, however there are some mention to some of their parents business who revolves around those crimes or world.

The "ROMANCE" , there's NO ROMANCE in this book at least for now, there seems to be in the middle of developing some feelings but NOT LOVE, some affection (kind of) maybe, some liking of the friendship type.... This is a DARK BULLY ROMANCE so there are very dark themes, dark moments of the sexual type and of course there's A LOT of BULLYING from everyone towards Aspen.

The tropes in this book are:

♡ Enemies To Lovers

♡ Bully

No O/M or O/W drama, also the H is too possessive to share his "toys", although he constantly threatened her of sharing her with his friends, he actually NEVER went through his threats. In conclusion, it's a safe book in respect to the mc's only ever been with each other throughout the entire book.

The CHARACTERS , this may be the most complicated about all the book, most of them were not even redeemable, they were hateful, pure fucking ASSHOLES and some rapist here and there too. The only character which I truly loved was Aspen and Brittany.

☆ ASPEN this girl stole my heart from the very first second, she's been through hell and worse, although everyone thinks she's a coward she just chooses her battles wisely. Her family is a disaster after the mistakes committed by her father and everyone blames her to by association, her mother is on the run and she's sent to this hell hole of university where everyone hates her and to sum it up, his father worst enemy offspring goes to this same university.

☆ QUINTON, he's an amazing conceited asshole, an egotistical boy and a bitch boy. The best iconic scene that best represents him is the first fight he has with Ren, his best friend [after Ren sees the video in which Q forces Aspen into giving him a BJ, he tells Q off and askes him how would he feel if someone did that to his sister... and the worse of all is that after he's been told off he still doesn't feel remorse or regrets what he did] quite the golden boy he is. He sneaks into the h's bedroom while she sleeps and got her drunk to make her spill information of her friend Britt. [He's looking for his birth mother after everything exploded a year before when his sister died]

☆ BRITTANY, the hacker aka school librarian, is quite the mystery, she's hiding from her asshole (yes, another one!) exboyfriend, Phoenix, she's the only one friend Aspen has in the whole school, who seems to really care about her and her well-being.

The other supporting characters in this book vary from good like Luna (Ren little sister) and Scarlet (Quinton little sister), to awful like Anjia the Russian girl, Matteo the rapist, Nash, Lucas Rossi the Dean of the University, Xander (Quinton father) who's probably the worst of them all.

So the story it's pretty good, the angst, the darkness, the psychological edge, so even though a few things I didn't liked it had more to do with the personality (assholeness) of said characters than the book itself.

I highly recommend this book if you like me enjoy dark enemies to lovers bully romance!! Hope you like it as much as I did!! 🖤

Happy reading everyone!! ❤❤

QUOTES:

“What you did with Aspen. The forced blow job. Matteo took a video of it and saved it on his phone.”

“Look, you know I don’t give a fuck what you do, and I hardly ever make comments about shit. I mean, our parents are fucking criminals, but don’t you think…?” Ren drags his feet, and my frustration toward him mounts.

Never, which is why I’m telling you I think you took it too far.”

“I saw the video, and then Luna called me a little bit after, and it made me think… if someone ever did that to her. I’d be filled with murderous rage. There would be nothing to stop me from slaughtering those fuckers.”

What if something like that happened to Scarlet? If someone did that to her? How would you feel?”

My sister’s angelic face fills my mind. The thought of anyone hurting her or touching her in a way that would make her feel degraded or less than ignites a fire in my veins. Still, all the anger from that statement gets directed at Ren.

What the hell is wrong with you?” I growl. “Scarlet and Aspen aren’t even on the same playing field, and that’s my fucking sister. Don’t ever talk about something like that happening to her again.”

Q just doesn’t want to share his new toy...

DO NO EVIL: THE SOCIETY #4 BY IVY FOX REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5

I TRULY DON'T have WORDS to describe this book, it was such a marvellous experience, this is how a mystery book should be like, a complete MINDFUCK. When you think something happened one way everything turns out proving just how wrong you were, the plot twists, the angst, the characters and the romance... everything just goes differently from what you thought and that's just the charm in it!!

I LOVED EVERY TORTUROUS SECOND OF THIS MAGNIFICENT BOOK!!

This is the result when a book has the perfect amount (or ratio) of darkness, mystery, romance and erotism (sex), PERFECTION.

After everything that happened in book three, you come to this with some theories and ideas in your head..  just to be blown away by everything and even though this book starts from the very beginning, how they all met, it's primordial to read the other books first in their specific order.

Let's start, this review stating a few facts:

The sexual content this book DOES CONTAIN sex, Ivy Fox likes her books with sex, but the important thing within this book that makes it different from others, it's that while this book DOES have sex, it ALSO have A LOT of PLOT and I mean A LOT. It's impossible in this book for the sexual content to out balance the plot, so there's not the usual problem with too much sex and no plot.

That being said, let's go on, the PLOT in this book is HUGE, extended and really twisted, to be honest, but as the story developed I wasn't bored a single second, there was so many things going on, you many unanswered questions that you wanted those answers, the book goes way back in time, from the very beginning to the present, explaining everything you couldn’t understand before and showing new things you couldn't even imagine, there are really a few surprises that Ivy did keep really well hidden. I won't say much regarding the mysteries and plot twists (sorry!) but it's really worth it, the story makes sense at the end and everything it's surprising and straight up twisted.

This book IT'S A DARK ROMANCE so let's never forget that there's a darkness to it and probably this book was the darkest and more twisted of them all, which I really loved, there are also some TRIGGER WARNINGS:

□ Rape and multiple mentions of rape

□ Sexual Harassment

□ Drug abuse

□ Domestic Violence

□ Self-harming

Although the plot isn't exactly centered towards any of those triggers, because most of them happen to supporting characters, even though, I feel like I should let everyone know this beforehand in case someone is sensitive to any of these triggers.

The ROMANCE , I was gladly surprised in this context of the book, because Lincoln and Kennedy had incredible chemistry but they were even really soulmates. Their love was beautiful, twisted and painful. I didn’t expect what we got but I'm so glad for it, I don’t think Ivy could have done it better. This book it's REALLY ROMANTIC, the two MC's are in love with each since the beginning to the end, as it's shown in the previous books, the tropes for this book's romance are a few:

♡ Best friends to lovers

♡ Virgins

♡ Possesive Heroine

♡ Soulmates

There's few O/M drama with Kennedy but nothing to worry about BELIEVE ME!! There's no cheating and both mc's remain each others love interests throughout the years.

The CHARACTERS , now here we got some of the big surprises (I won't say much more, sorry again!), but the characters in this book were a 10/10, and the best one was probably Lincoln followed very closely by Kennedy.

♤ LINCOLN he's the one character who has remained the most mysterious and more enigmatic throughout the series, the most interesting one for the last. His character development is really extraordinary, how he goes from childhood to adulthood, his personality development, questioning his moral, his deviations... he really impressed me as a hero (I really don't want to spoil much) but his connection with his friends was truly beautiful in special with Colt, their bond was the most beautiful and mesmerising.

It’s only when my manic state dissolves that I realize the person that was holding on to me all along was, in fact, my beloved cousin—Colt.

My brother, in all the ways that really count.

His loyalty and love are what snap me out of my suffering state.

I call Teddy a monster for his brutality and soullessness, but am I any better? Coveting my own flesh and blood?

What other thing can I be if not a depraved monstrosity? I curse the blood that runs in my veins with the same fervor I curse hers.

“Is this what you want, ...? To make a fiendish monster out of me again? To make me take what isn’t mine? What can never be mine?”

♧ KENNEDY she's a fucking fighter, I really didn't expect her, she's one of the best heroines throughout all the series, probably a favourite, her resilience, her fierceness, her protectiveness for her family (friends), her strength after going through everything she had to without anyone to help her and her mother dying when she was only a child. She really went above my expectations, and to be honest I was biased against her in the beginning of the book but she just bought her way to my heart being the strong and caring woman she was.

One day, I’ll show them both how wrong they are in underestimating me.

He would kill for me. Just as I have killed for him.

"Take hydrochloric acid, for example. Do you know what acid does to the skin? No? Well, let me educate you. It burns human flesh in seconds, eating away at the blood cells, the smell so repugnant it will be the only thing you smell for days... Accidents happen every day, especially to people who don’t know who they are fucking with.”

"Somewhere along the line, while we were fighting monsters, we became them, too."

Other supporting characters such as, TommyboyJeffMeredithColleenTeddy,   SierraDorothea were very interesting too and key (important) for the story and how everything unfolds. Their characters development was surprising in some cases and highly interesting, the nature of some of their actions and events... this book helped understand a lot of unknowns that were bugging my mind for months.

"I still have the scars from the last time I tried to be your knight in shining armor. The role never suited me anyway.”

“I know you don’t, sweetheart. But one day, you will,” she adds, only adding to my confusion. “We women have to be clever when dealing with our enemies. It’s best not to be feared since fear leads to suspicion. You should be seen in a light that deems you incapable of raining vengeance on your enemies. That way, they never see you coming for them.”

“Love is a word the poor and feeble-minded throw around to give their pitiful excuse of a life meaning. I taught you better than to give credence to such infantile notions. Power and prestige are the only things that hold true value in this world. We tried and failed to achieve the first. Now it’s time we focus our efforts on the latter.”

“Do I really spend that much time looking at myself in the mirror?”

“Look at me, Lincoln. You are a Richfield. That is all that matters. Do you understand me?”

After all this, I can only say that the ending is absolutely amazing, in accordance with the rest of the book!!

There are no cliffhangers as this is the last book for this group of friends.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK, I HOPE YOU ENJOY AND LOVE IT AS MUCH AS I DID!! ❤🖤❤🖤

Happy reading everyone!!💗

KINGDOM OF THE WICKED BY KERRI MANISCALCO

 ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5

**SPOILER ALERT**

This book, what can I say about it, a lot of things really. I liked the overall idea for the book BUT I think it was underdeveloped. The witches, the demon Princes, minor demons, grimoires, covens, Sicily, the murders, the witch hunters, the God brothers... were really good ideas but something was missing.

I liked some things and disliked a few other, the characters... are another story.

What I liked from this book apart from the <>overall idea> are the following points:

◇ WRATH He's for sure the most interesting son of a b*tch in the entire book, he remains an enigma till the end, he still is. The few times he appears in the book everything becomes more questionable and more enigmatic, everything makes no sense when he enters the picture (if that makes any sense 😅).

◇ The murders this was one of the things that called me to this book, the MYSTERY, the beginning of the book started really strong with the murder of the sister, the man (W) licking the blood off his fingers, the missing heart... was a bit satanic, but very interesting and fitting to the book genre and plot.

◇ The "ROMANCE" , who the come from "enemies to lovers", I guess if could call them enemies. I really didn't see much enmity between them, apart from the occasional bickering, the name calling 'Demon' or 'Witch', they were more allies than enemies. But I guess the progression of their relationship was interesting enough because it made the book lighter, attractive and more interesting.

Now the I'm going to be brutally honest here, I'm DISAPPOINTED with this book, I expected more from a mystery paranormal YA book, there were just things that were too obvious, parts were there was too little of everything and chapters that were just plain BORING.

○ EMILIA was an annoying heroine, an really take the damsel in distress syndrome to another level... I don’t enjoy heroines like that, she was repetitive, always saying the same thing again and again... like a vicious cycle, she was never strong enough to fight her own battles bit she always came out unscathed (how unbelievable I must say), she was plain DUMB, the answers were IN FRONT of her all this time she just didn't see them because she's too stupid for her own good. I disliked her character.

I’d lost all memories of spells or healing charms. I’d shut down and let fear take control. (She didn't defend herself, AGAIN, *ROLLING EYES*)

○ MORE ACTION , I expected more action being this book (again) a Mystery PARANORMAL YA, MORE WITCHCRAFT just more but there was too little of everything and our heroine didn't even know how to do most of the spells, really dissatisfied.

○ How is POSSIBLE our WICKED PRINCES were so laid back?? The only comforting we get it's at the end when Envy shows a little devilness opening his brother up. They were too soft for a dark prince.

○ To be even more BRUTAL, the mystery was too obvious , by the 30-35% you already know who the killer is, who the mastermind is and who is the owner of the minor demons, Although that didn't bother me much, it's real that it does happen, so it's not a positive point.

But in overall, it's an okay reading if you have nothing better to do and if you like SEXY TATTOOED DEMON PRINCES. The book it's not that bad but it's just not that good either.

THEORY VS. REALITY

“They appear human but their ebony eyes are tinged red, and their skin is hard as stone. Whatever you do, you must never speak to the Wicked. If you see them, hide. Once you’ve caught a demon prince’s attention, he’ll stop at nothing to claim you. They are midnight creatures, born of darkness and moonlight. And they seek only to destroy. Guard your hearts; if given the chance they’ll rip them from your chests and guzzle your blood as it steams in the night.”

“You’re bloodthirsty demons. You’ve got red flecks in your eyes, your skin is like ice, you’re beautiful, and your kisses are addictive enough to make someone sell their soul for another." THEORY

“It’s nice to know you find me so attractive, but I’m not one of those demons. My eyes aren’t red. And if you’d like to find out if my skin is warmer than ice, that can easily be arranged.” REALITY

~☆~☆~☆~

Emilia’s cornicello was made of silver, and Vittoria’s gold. The girls weren’t allowed to bring them together, or something terrible would happen. According to Nonna it would be like forcing the sun and moon to share the sky, bringing the world into an eternal twilight. THEORY

“Here,” she commanded, “take it.”

Emilia hesitated only a minute before clasping the golden horn in her palm.

A shimmering lavender-black light exploded from their amulets, startling Emilia enough that she dropped her sister’s necklace. REALITY

Happy reading you all!!! Hope you are all enjoying your books!! ❤💜
